Poetry Month/ National Poetry Writing Month
Started in 1996 Poetry Month has been celebrated in April to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry. Poetry Month was inspired by Black History Month and Women's History Months success. This month promotes books, publishers, booksellers, educators, and other literary organizations. National Poetry Writing Month encourages people to write poetry every day in a celebration starting in 2001. It's also celebrated in Canada and the United Kingdom.
